Joe was spending the week prior to the big game in Florida, poolside in swim trunks and flip-flops. He was constantly in the headlines and had the nickname, “Broadway Joe.” He was also the quarterback for the New York Jets. He did not act like any player before him and was revered by most sportswriters and the public. He had scruffy hair, enjoyed wearing long fur coats, and went to glitzy parties in New York City with beautiful women. Some believe he ushered in our modern-day superstar sports era. In 1968 pro-football player Joe Namath was the representation of the changing times, he also became a social icon.
